Orai has the third largest population in Bundelkhand and is the Headquarter of Jalaun district. This city is the commercial city of Jalaun. Before 1986 this city had only small scale agricultural industries. In 1986 Industrial Development authority of Utter Pradesh had allotted approx 500 acre of land towards north-west at Kanpur Orai highway and its Development is still on progress. Because it is situated at national highway, therefore its development is at a high pace and same hoped for the future.
Currently Orai is also affected by urbanization same as the other cities. To plan unplanned development, promote industrialization, domestic imbalance and planned development has to be taken care of, to fulfill it this grand plan was constructed. In this plan the escalating needs of the city along with the needs of population of two lacks has been provisioned.
For the development of the city, state government of Utter Pradesh Lucknow on 30 July 1986 had announced PWD of Orai and its nearby 16 revenue villages to be regulated areas under the act of 1958 notification no 635/37-3-86-3.
Due to development of industrial area by U.P.S.I.D.C. at village Sarsokhi on Orai Kanpur highway this area was also considered to be covered up under ODA. Therefore village Sarsokhi was also included in this amendment revised by Lucknow on 31 December 1987 in notification no 3035/37-3-87-3.
